How many watts a dehumidifier actually uses
The number the whole running-cost question depends on, and the one nearly every manufacturer omits. It can be computed from public data, and here is the working.

The short answer
Median average draw by DOE capacity class: 105 W at 10 pints, 167 W at 16, 258 W at 20-22, 265 W at 25, 318 W at 30-32, 351 W at 35, 401 W at 40 and 488 W at 50. Computed across 527 ENERGY STAR certified portable models.
The gap this page fills
Go and try to find out what a dehumidifier draws. Retail listings state pints and square feet. Manufacturer product pages state dimensions, weight and warranty. Of the 21 current units in our registry, exactly one prints a wattage anywhere on its listing.
That is a strange gap in a category whose most-asked question is what it costs to run, and it is the reason the running-cost calculators that exist are either offline or working from a default that is off by an order of magnitude.
Where the numbers come from
The ENERGY STAR program publishes its entire certified product list as open data. Every certified dehumidifier row carries the model's water removal capacity in pints per day measured under the post-2019 DOE test procedure, and its Integrated Energy Factor in liters of water removed per kilowatt-hour.
Those two numbers give you the power draw directly. Liters per day divided by liters per kWh is kWh per day; kWh per day over 24 hours is kilowatts.

The cross-check, because a derivation needs one
A formula that produces plausible-looking numbers is not evidence. So here is the check: every certified row also carries a published annual energy consumption in kWh per year, computed by ENERGY STAR independently of anything we did. Dividing that annual figure by the wattage we computed gives an implied annual run time.

The middle half of the distribution falls between 1,055 and 1,091 hours. A spread that tight across 136 unrelated manufacturers means the derivation agrees with a figure ENERGY STAR published separately. It is not a fit and it is not a coincidence.

Seven of twenty-one map to a named entry in the ENERGY STAR certified list and carry a computed figure. The other fourteen say so rather than borrowing a sibling model's number.
How to read it
- Use the median for your class unless your unit is named in the certified list, in which case use its own figure. The class ranges are narrow - about ten percent at 50 pints - so the median is a good estimate.
- A nameplate wattage is a different number. Frigidaire's Wi-Fi pump model states 115 V and 593 W on its listing while its certified data computes to 490 W. The nameplate is a maximum with everything energized; the computed figure is the average draw at the DOE test condition. Use the nameplate for sizing a circuit and the computed one for running cost.
- Bigger is more efficient per pint. The 50-pint class median IEF of 2.01 beats the 25-pint class's 1.79. A larger machine draws more per hour and moves more water per kilowatt-hour.
- Uncertified units have no published figure at all. If a model is not in the certified list, there is no IEF to compute from and the class band is the honest answer. Four brands in our registry fall into this category at some capacity.
What the number does not include
This is the average draw while the machine is doing its job at the test condition. Two things move real consumption away from it. A unit that has reached its target and is idling draws far less - IEF already accounts for off-cycle energy, which is exactly why the metric replaced the old Energy Factor. And a unit fighting a room it cannot dry runs continuously at full draw, which is why sizing matters more to your bill than efficiency does.
