The best dehumidifiers for an RV or boat
Two constraints nothing else in this category has: the space is unheated for months at a time, and there is nowhere obvious to put the water. Both of them point away from the obvious machine.

The short answer
For unheated winter storage, a desiccant unit - a compressor dehumidifier ices up and stops working below about 41F, which is the temperature a stored RV or boat cabin spends the season at. For a vehicle on shore power in mild weather, a small compressor unit is more efficient. Either way, plan where the water goes before you plan the capacity.
Why storage is the case that decides the purchase
People buy for the wrong scenario here. The one that damages a vehicle is not a humid weekend with the air conditioning on - it is five months closed up with nobody in it. That period has three features nothing in a house has at once: no heating, no ventilation, and no one to attend to a machine.
A boat adds a fourth: it sits on water, which is a continuous moisture source underneath the whole structure, and a cabin's surfaces stay close to water temperature. That is why laid-up boats produce condensation on the deckhead in weather that would leave a garage dry.
The temperature problem, in one paragraph
A compressor dehumidifier chills a coil below the dew point so water condenses onto it. As the space gets colder, that coil has to run colder still to keep condensing, and below roughly 41F it ices faster than the defrost cycle can clear it. The machine then spends its time defrosting rather than drying - drawing power, collecting nothing.
A desiccant unit has no cold coil. Air passes through a rotor that absorbs water, and a heater drives that water back out to be collected in a separate stream. Nothing needs to be below freezing for that to work, so output is roughly flat with temperature instead of collapsing. Desiccant versus compressor.

Power, and the honest limit of this page
Every machine on this page is a 120V appliance. That means shore power, a pedestal at the storage yard, or a marina berth with electricity. None of these runs off a leisure battery for any useful length of time, and we are not going to imply otherwise - a 258 W compressor unit would flatten a typical RV house battery bank in a few hours, and an inverter does not change that arithmetic.
If there is no power where the vehicle is stored, an electric dehumidifier is not the product. Passive moisture absorbers and good ventilation are the honest answer, and neither is something we sell.
Where the water goes
- Best: a hose to a drain. An RV has a shower drain and a sink; a boat has a shower sump or a scupper. Running a gravity hose into one turns a machine that stops after two days into one that runs all winter. Check the hose runs downhill the entire way - none of these has a pump. Continuous drainage.
- Second best: a small extraction rate and a real tank. If the load is low and the machine is small, a tank can genuinely last weeks. This is the only configuration in which a mini makes sense here.
- Worst: a full-size tank you will empty on a visit. It will be full when you arrive and it will have been full for most of the time you were away.

Best for: A wardrobe, and honestly not much more

A thermoelectric unit that removes about one pint a day, which is roughly one fiftieth of a 50-pint machine and needs saying out loud before anyone buys one for a basement.

- Stops working below 41F, which rules out the unheated spaces people usually buy it for
- No drain option - the tank is the only outlet

Skip it if
Skip it for any room. This is the single most common mis-purchase in the category: it is not a small dehumidifier, it is a different class of device, and no number of them adds up to a basement machine.

- Wi-Fi and auto shut-off at a small-unit price
What is not
- 32 DOE pints is genuinely less water than 50 - undersizing a wet basement costs more than the machine saved
- Gravity drainage only
- 4,500 sq ft coverage for 32 pints is another claim to ignore
Who it is for
A bedroom, a home office, or a small basement that is humid rather than actively wet.
Skip it if
Skip it if the floor is ever damp to the touch or the walls sweat. That is a 50-pint problem, and a 32-pint machine will run continuously and still lose.

Two caveats specific to this use. First, a stored vehicle's machine runs closer to 24 hours a day than 12, because there is nobody to switch it off - so double the twelve-hour figure for a realistic storage estimate. Second, the desiccant option publishes no wattage at all and is not covered by the ENERGY STAR certified list, so we cannot give you a figure for it and will not invent one. It is chosen because it works in the cold, not because it is cheap to run.

What we would skip
A compressor unit for unheated winter storage
This is the central mistake on this page. Below about 41F a compressor dehumidifier's coil ices faster than its defrost cycle can clear it, and it spends the winter drawing power without drying anything. That is exactly the season and exactly the temperature range an RV or a laid-up boat sits in.
Any unit that depends on you emptying a tank
Stored vehicles are visited monthly at best. A machine that stops on a full tank stops on the second day and the interior spends the next eleven weeks at whatever humidity it likes. Either run a hose out through a drain or scupper, or accept a machine whose extraction is small enough that a tank genuinely lasts.
Anything sized as though an RV were a house
A travel trailer is a few hundred cubic feet, not a basement. A 50-pint machine in that volume is enormous, heavy, and will short-cycle. Sizing up here buys nothing and costs storage space you do not have.
