Frigidaire dehumidifier error codes
Nine codes across five faults. Two of them you can clear yourself, and the rest are a phone call. Frigidaire's manual and Frigidaire's service guide do not say the same thing about the worst one, so both are printed here.

The short answer
EC and F0 are a sealed system failure. H3 and E5 are compressor overload protection, which you can usually clear. PU means the pump could not empty the bucket in time. AS, ES, F1, F2, L1 and F5 mean a temperature or humidity sensor has failed. E4 and C5 are an electronic control failure. Only H3/E5 and PU have a fix an owner can carry out.

Frigidaire's two official documents disagree
This is the part worth knowing before you spend anything, and it is not something either document tells you.
Frigidaire's service-side error code guide, on its Owner Center, classifies F0 as a sealed system failure and F1, F2 and L1 as a failed sensor. All four are listed as contact-us faults with no owner-serviceable step.
The use and care manual for the FFAD7033R1 - Frigidaire's long-running large-capacity portable - handles the same codes completely differently. For F1, F2 and L1 it says to turn off and unplug the unit, then plug it in again in 30 minutes. For F0 it says to check the operating conditions. Neither instruction names a failed component, and both imply the unit may recover.

Both retrieved 2026-09-08. We are not claiming either is wrong. The practical consequence is that the manual's step costs you 30 minutes and the service guide's costs you a service call, so the manual's is worth trying first.
The order to work in is therefore: do the manual's step, and if the code returns, believe the service guide.

EC and F0: the expensive one
A sealed system is the refrigerant circuit - compressor, condenser, evaporator and the closed loop of refrigerant between them. It is sealed at the factory and it is not designed to be opened again.
Opening one is not a home repair, and it is not a repair most appliance technicians will take on for a portable dehumidifier either. It needs recovery equipment so the refrigerant is not vented, a vacuum pump, brazing, and an EPA Section 608 certification to handle the refrigerant legally. The labor alone routinely approaches what the machine cost.
So the honest answer for EC or F0 on a portable is that the unit is finished unless it is under warranty. Check the warranty first - most portables in this category carry one year, and if you are inside it, the repair or replacement is Frigidaire's to arrange rather than yours to pay for.
If it is out of warranty, this is a replacement decision rather than a repair decision. The 50-pint class is where most Frigidaire portables sit once the DOE rating is used rather than the box number, and if the failed unit had a pump, the pump roundup is the shorter list to work from.
H3 and E5: compressor overload protection
This is the one you can most often clear, and the name tells you why: the compressor's overload protector has tripped to stop the compressor damaging itself. It is a protective device doing its job, not a broken part.
Frigidaire's four steps, in its own order:
- 1Check the installation has proper clearance. A dehumidifier rejects heat out of the back and sides. Pushed against a wall or boxed into a corner it re-breathes its own exhaust, and the compressor climbs until the protector opens.
- 2Check and clean the filter. Restricted airflow does the same thing from the other direction - less air across the coil, more heat retained.
- 3Confirm the room is between 41F and 89F. Above that band the condenser cannot shed heat fast enough.
- 4Unplug the unit and let it cool. The protector resets on temperature, not on a button, so this takes time rather than force.
If it trips again in the same spot after all four, the placement is the problem rather than the machine. Move it away from the wall before you conclude anything else. Cleaning and maintenance covers the filter interval.

PU: the pump did not empty in time
Only on pump models, and in our experience of the specifications this is far more often the hose than the pump. Frigidaire's steps:
- 1Make sure the pump drain hose is well connected. A loose fitting at the outlet is the most common single cause.
- 2Check the hose is not blocked, kinked or frozen. Frozen matters in a garage or an unheated crawl space - a condensate line that freezes overnight reads as a pump failure in the morning.
- 3Remove and empty the water bucket, and check the bucket pickup for dirt or algae. Algae in a condensate path is normal after a season and is the reason the pickup screen exists.
- 4Turn the unit off and restart it under normal operating conditions, then unplug and plug it in again.
One thing Frigidaire does not mention and that matters here: a condensate pump has a lift limit, and a hose run is not the same constraint as a vertical rise. Sixteen feet across a flat floor is easy; sixteen feet that includes twelve feet of climb is not. If PU appears on a new install rather than an old one, suspect the route before the pump. The sensor codes, and the control codes
AS, ES, F1, F2, L1 and F5 all mean the same thing in Frigidaire's guide: a temperature or humidity sensor has failed. E4 and C5 mean an electronic control failure. Both groups are listed as contact-us faults.
Two of these are worth a moment before you accept them. F1, F2 and L1 are the codes the use and care manual says to power-cycle, so try the 30-minute unplug first. And a failed humidity sensor produces a symptom that is easy to mistake for a different problem entirely - a machine that stops early because it believes the room is drier than it is, which reads as a unit that will not reach its target. It will not get below 60 percent covers the far more common versions of that.
The operating range, which is also printed twice
Frigidaire's H3/E5 article gives the operating temperature as 41F to 89F. The FFAD7033R1 use and care manual gives it as 41F (5C) to 90F (32C) and adds that outside that band the unit will not work properly or its performance will fall greatly.
One degree is not going to change a diagnosis. It is worth knowing because it is the same pattern as F0: two Frigidaire documents, two numbers, and no note anywhere that they differ. Where this site gives one figure it names which document it came from.
The low end is the one that actually catches people. At 41F a compressor dehumidifier of any brand is at the edge of where refrigeration works at all, and long before it throws a code it will simply ice over. Why it ices up, and what runs in a cold room instead.
