The short answer

Certified as Midea MAD50S1QWT-A at 49.67 pints per day and IEF 2.01 L/kWh, which computes to 487 W. Gravity drainage only - no pump. The body separates so the tank half can sit lower than the compressor half, which is the feature worth paying for.

What the splitting body actually does

Every gravity-drained dehumidifier has the same problem: the drain port sits a few inches off the floor, so the destination has to be lower than that, and in a basement with a floor drain flush to the slab the fall over a fifteen-foot run can be an inch. That is enough in theory and unforgiving in practice, because any sag in the hose becomes a low spot that holds water.

The Cube's body comes apart into two stacked sections. Separating them lets the reservoir half sit on the floor while the compressor half stands on top, which raises the outlet several inches and turns a marginal fall into a real one. That is a genuine engineering answer to the actual constraint, and it is not how the product is marketed.

Midea publishes no wattage on the Amazon listing or on its own US product page - we checked both. The 487 W above is computed from the certified entry rather than quoted, and the derivation is on the wattage page. At IEF 2.01 the Cube sits exactly on the median for the 50-pint class, which spans 2.01 to 2.20. It is neither a bargain nor a penalty on efficiency.

Skip it if the only drain in the room is higher than the unit. Without a pump, gravity is the entire drainage system, and no setting fixes an uphill hose.

The current retail revision is the -B; every Midea 50-pint Cube revision in the certified list, pump or not, computes to 487-490 W, so the pump does not move the number meaningfully. The pump itself only runs in bursts.

What is good

  • Pump means the destination can be higher than the machine - a laundry sink, a window, a stack
  • Identical DOE capacity and IEF to the non-pump Cube, so the pump costs you nothing in efficiency
  • The split body still works, so you can also run it on gravity and keep the pump as the backup
  • Certified 49.67 pt/day, an honest 50-pint rating

What is not

  • Costs more than the identical machine without the pump
  • A pump is one more thing that can fail, and when it does the unit stops rather than overflows

Who it is for

Anyone whose drain is above the floor. That is most finished basements and nearly every crawl space.

Skip it if you already have a floor drain within hose reach and below the machine. You would be paying for a pump you will never switch on.

Which version to buy

The two versions are the same machine with and without a condensate pump, and both certify identically - Midea's certified pump and non-pump 50-pint Cube revisions all compute to 487 to 490 W, so the pump costs nothing to run.

  • Drain below the unit - buy the plain Cube. The splitting body already gives you the height you need and you would be paying for a pump you will never switch on.
  • Drain above the unit - buy the pump version. There is no arrangement of a gravity hose that goes uphill.
  • Not sure yet - buy the pump version. It keeps the gravity outlet, so you can run gravity as the primary and hold the pump in reserve.

The coverage claim

4,500 square feet, per Midea. Treat it as a marketing figure rather than a specification: in our registry, units with the identical certified 50-pint capacity claim anywhere from 4,000 to 7,500 square feet. Midea's claim is toward the conservative end of that range, which is mildly to its credit, but the pint rating is the number that was measured under a federal test procedure and the square footage is not. What we did not do

We have not run this machine. We have not measured its noise, its real extraction rate, or how it behaves at 55F. Publications with chambers and meters have, and their measurements are worth reading alongside this.
